Brendan Cabrera ’19 organized Trail Work Party for O’Dea student volunteers

Posted April 30, 2018

O'Dea High School

Brendan Cabrera ’19, a Youth Ambassador for the Washington Trails Association, recently arranged a Trail Work Party at Soaring Eagle Park in Sammamish.  Nine student volunteers from O’Dea worked for eight hours to create new drainage ways for standing water. At the end of the day, students had managed to create 42 different drainage systems along the trail.  These gentlemen worked hard and had fun while maintaining one of the many trails in Washington. Thank you to Brendan for organizing such an important act of service, and for the rest of the student volunteers for giving so generously of your time.

Peter Gockowski ’18 helped to restore wall that honors local high-school-student alumni who died in World War II

Posted March 19, 2018

O'Dea High School

Peter Gockowski ’18 recently organized a group of Eagle Scouts to help restore a wall outside of Seattle Center’s Memorial Stadium. After one of Peter’s football games he learned that Memorial Stadium was built in 1947 to honor Seattle high-school student alumni who died in World War II. Nearly 800 people are listed on the wall. After noticing that the wall was partly obscured by trash-strewn, overgrown hedges, Peter obtained permission from Seattle Public Schools for a cleanup.

Click HERE to read the full article in The Seattle Times and HERE to listen to an interview with Peter, his Dad and Monte Kohler on the Dave Ross Radio Show.

Thank you to Peter for all of his hard work and for noticing the important need in our community. Yet another example of the young men at O’Dea living lives of character, faith and service.
